Functional Blood Analysis (also called Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis) looks at standard laboratory results through a different lens. Instead of only checking whether values fall inside the wide “normal” reference ranges used to diagnose disease, it uses tighter optimal or functional ranges aimed at supporting peak health and catching early dysfunction.
Many people are told their labs are “normal” yet still experience fatigue, digestive issues, brain fog, or other symptoms. Functional interpretation helps bridge that gap by examining patterns, ratios, and trends that may not yet meet pathological cutoffs.
Conventional reference ranges are typically based on the central 95% of a tested population. Because that population often includes people who are not optimally healthy, the “normal” range can be quite broad.
Functional ranges are narrower targets associated with better function and lower risk of progression toward imbalance. Exact optimal targets can vary by practitioner and clinical context.
